Mario Batali buys 200 pairs of Crocs after orange is discontinued
Every celebrity chef has something they're known for: Rachael Ray and her E.V.O.O. Masaharu Morimoto and his Iron Chef resume. Giada De Laurentiis almost slicing the tip of her finger off on live TV. And Mario Batali and his orange Crocs. But not for much longer.
Details magazine asked the 53-year-old restaurateur how many pairs of the affronts to tasteful fashion he owned, and he answered, "Probably 30. I just ordered 200 more because they're about to take orange out of the field. They made a special run for me before they retired the color."
Wait, no more orange nightmares? Indeed. "They're gonna stop the Mario Batali orange! It's preposterous!" he added. "But they're doing pretty well without me. Nothing lasts forever, baby."
Well, Crocs come close, since they're made of that synthetic stuff that can't be destroyed. The good news is Mario can still order the Bistro Mario Batali Vent Clog, because People says those aren't being canceled. Not yet, anyway. It's better to have closed-toe shoes in the kitchen, anyway.
