Matt and Amy Roloff of 'Little People, Big World' separate

Little People, big breakup. Matt and Amy Roloff have decided to separate after 26 years of marriage.

In a clip from a TLC special that will air on March 25, the Little People, Big World stars reveal that Matt has moved out of their home outside of Portland, Ore.

“Though we have weathered many storms together, we recently made the tough decision to engage in a trial separation,” the couple told People on Wednesday.

Matt’s not venturing too far into the big world, though. He’ll be living in the guest house on the family’s farm.

“Amy and I are separated,” he says in a clip from the March 25 episode. “Last year was long, long and tough. Amy and I had a lot of tensions so right around Thanksgiving I thought I would move over to the bridal house for a little bit and we’ll try that.”

The couple still works together to manage the farm and raise their three children — twins Jeremy and Zach, 23, Molly, 20, and Jacob, 17.

“You can call it a separation if you want, a trial separation, but it’s more of just giving each other some space,” said Matt, who claims he never felt at home in his family’s house.

Amy says they never really learned how to live together, and she’s not thrilled about the separation. “It’s not my choice for him to leave,” she says.

“I am saddened by it, and it’s been 26 years. We don’t have a plan as far as how we are going to work this out so it’s not going to be easy.”

Cue the ratings spike.
