Matt Lauer considered to replace Alex Trebek on 'Jeopardy'
We all know Alex Trebek can't host Jeopardy forever, so the replacement search is on. We also know that Matt Lauer has pretty much overstayed his welcome in a few ways at Today and needs somewhere to go. Could it be that these two problems may solve each other? That's what the New York Post is saying.
The tabloid insists that Lauer is on the short list to take over hosting duties when Trebek leaves, which is expected to happen in 2016. Lauer's $25 million per year contract is up in 2015. We shouldn't have to draw too vivid a picture here to see where this is going.
Sony Pictures Television is also considering Anderson Cooper, whose contract with CNN expires next year, because they apparently have a white hair fetish. We would pay big bucks to see Lauer and Cooper duke it out in the squared circle to choose a winner. Trebek has already had two heart attacks, so we know the job will be open soon, one way or another.
