Michael Strahan joins 'Good Morning America'
Michael Strahan must really be a morning person. The Live! With Kelly and Michael co-host is joining Good Morning America.
ABC hasn’t commented yet, but the former New York Giants defensive end confirmed the news on Live! Wednesday.
“The big news is that I’m going to be on GMA now,” he said. “So what is so surprising is I had a meeting, and we talked about the possibility there. Then I went to see Captain America with Samuel L. Jackson,” (awesome sauce!), “and I get out of screening and I check my messages and I’m on Good Morning America,” he continued.
Don’t fret, those of you who wake up early enough to actually be able to enjoy you some Live! Strahan isn’t bailing, according to the New York Daily News. The GMA gig is part-time, starting out as just a few days a week, and the Hall of Famer’s first priority is Live!
“I don’t think I could do it every day. I have a lot going on. I have to be smart about it,” he said. “I just want everyone to know and you to know that no matter what, this is my No. 1 priority, and you are my No. 1 priority, and I would never do anything to jeopardize the quality of what I do here.”
Joked Kelly Ripa, “That is exactly how we rehearsed it backstage.”
Strahan’s arrival on set comes in the wake of Josh Elliott’s unexpected and sudden departure over the weekend. (He’s heading to NBC Sports after emailing his bosses to tell them it’s ovah.)
Oh, and Ripa, who was also pitched a GMA deal, declined and is staying with Live!
So these questions still remain: How is Strahan going to work on a show that wraps at 8:59 a.m. and a show that begins at 9 a.m.? What happens when it’s football season, and he’s back on Fox as an analyst? And how much coffee can one ex-NFL player drink in a day? Inquiring minds want to know.
