Motley Crue breaking up, announce farewell tour
You may need someone to Kickstart Your Heart after you read this news: Motley Crue has decided It’s Time for Change, so they’re breaking up. (Yes, they were still together — est. 1981.)
The silver lining: The Doctors Feelgood are going on a final farewell tour with Alice Cooper — 70 shows around the world, with tickets starting at $15 — so that’s pretty rad.
“We always had a vision of going out with a big f---ing bang and not playing county fairs and clubs with one or two original band members,” drummer Tommy Lee said in a statement. “Our job here is done.”
Vince Neil, Mick Mars, Nikki Sixx and Tommy will be at the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre in Tampa on August 17, and tickets go on sale Friday, but don’t even think about making their website crash or we’ll have no choice but to crush you. She Needs Rock 'n’ Roll, y’all!
And, no, this isn’t a publicity stunt, the Crue assures you. The Saints of Los Angeles are really breaking up. Really. The band even signed a legal contract stating that this tour is their last hoorah.
The boys who put the hair in metal have stuck together through 33 years of drug use, stints in prison, sex, sex, sex (Pamela Anderson, hello!), two minutes of actual death (That was Nikki, courtesy of a heroin overdose circa 1987.) and hell-raising hedonism in general.
So what’s next for these old dudes? Vince wants to explore the restaurant biz, fansided.com reports. Nikki of course has his band 6 AM and a radio show, and he’s working on a Broadway play — say what? Mick hopes to put out a solo album and autobiography. And Tommy? He says it’s going to be a surprise, natch, because drama and suspense.
#RIPMotleyCrue as you headbang into the sunset. Horns up. The metal scene just won’t be the same Without You.
