Randy Quaid arrested at U.S.-Canada border
The really weird Randy Quaid saga continues. The Independence Day actor was arrested Friday night while trying to cross the border from Canada into the United States.
Vermont State Police told the Associated Press that the older brother of Dennis Quaid was taken into custody a couple days after Canadian officials told him he would be deported.
Randy Quaid and his wife, Evi Quaid, are wanted in Santa Barbara, Calif., on felony charges of vandalism after they were found in 2010 squatting in the guest house of a home they once owned.
After skipping many a court date, the couple fled to Canada, where Randy Quaid was denied permanent residency.
The 65-year-old actor told the Associated Press last week that he’s ready to face his legal issues in Cali and “move on with my life.”
Looks like he’s on the fast track because border officials determined he and his wife are fugitives and subject to extradition. Their bail: $500,000 each.
When Quaid and his Canadian wife fled the U.S. in 2010, the National Lampoon’s Vacation actor alleged that he was being hunted by “Hollywood star-whackers” who killed David Carradine and Heath Ledger.
Two days before being charged with $5,000 worth of damage to their former guest house, the couple fled to Vancouver, British Columbia.
