Richard Simmons hospitalized over 'bizarre’ behavior
The extremely strange Richard Simmons saga continues.
Just three months after it was widely noted that the fitness guru has been out of the spotlight for three years, Simmons was taken to a Los Angeles hospital late Friday night after acting in a bizarre manner, TMZ reports.
Sources told the gossip site that the Sweatin’ to the Oldies star was acting particularly strange just before midnight when someone inside his Hollywood Hills home called 911. Paramedics who arrived on the scene determined Simmons should be evaluated. Simmons consented and was taken to Cedars-Sinai.
As you may recall, Simmons has been holed up in his mansion for about three years, inexplicably turning his back on those who were closest to him. After a lengthy New York Daily News report dug into why Simmons might be in hiding — a friend accused housekeeper Teresa Reveles of holding him hostage — Simmons emerged to say he simply wanted to take a break from celebrity life.
“No one is holding me in my house as a hostage,” he said during a phone interview on the Today show on March 14. “You know, I do what I want to do as I’ve always done, so people should sort of just believe what I have to say because, like, I’m Richard Simmons!”
The 67-year-old also told Entertainment Tonight, “I am not kidnapped, I am just in my house right now. No one should be worried about me. The people that surround me are wonderful people who take great care of me.”
His friends, however, have been worried about him.
