Thief steals jewels after pretending to be Nick Cannon's employee
An rather ingenious thief managed to swipe thousands of dollars' worth of jewelry from a Fred Segal store by pretending to be a member of Nick Cannon's entourage picking up bling for Mariah Carey. he'll no doubt end up caught, but the brashness of it would make the Joker blush.
The suspect allegedly called the jeweler's Santa Monica store, identified himself as Michael and said he worked for Cannon, TMZ reports. He said he wanted some jewelry for Mimi delivered to the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood. Once the woman with jewelry showed, a so-called security guard showed up and said he'd take the bag upstairs, retrieving cash to avoid taxes, the website says.
Of course the security guard was no such thing, and disappeared with the baubles, never to be seen again. Well, at least until the LAPD search video footage, identify him and track him down, we're guessing. This begs a couple questions: How much jewelry does Carey buy to get service like that? And what jewelry store employee is gullible enough to just hand over gems to somebody in a rent-a-cop outfit?
