Sarah Palin pipes up about Bristol’s brewing custody battle
One thing we know: Adding another mama to your baby drama isn’t necessarily a sound move. Well, here we are, two weeks after Bristol Palin gave birth to daughter Sailor Grace, and Sarah Palin has gone on record with Entertainment Tonight regarding the custody battle over her new granddaughter.
“For many months we have been trying to reach out to Dakota Myers [sic] and he has wanted nothing to do with either Bristol’s pregnancy or the baby,” the former vice presidential candidate told ET.
Though Bristol Palin never publicly named the father of her child, Dakota Meyer, her ex-fiance, is claiming to be the biodad. The Marine Corps veteran and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient has filed legal docs seeking joint custody and child support.
The day Sailor was born, Meyer posted an Instagram photo of the newborn with this caption: “Best Christmas present ever!! I couldn’t be more proud of this little blessing.”
No word yet on how he got the photo.
“Paramount to the entire Palin family is the health and welfare of Sailor Grace,” Sarah Palin said, adding that Meyer is trying to “save face.”
Here’s the backstory: The couple got engaged in March after two months of dating. They planned to marry in May, but called things off a week before the wedding date. Bristol Palin announced in June that she was pregnant. Palin’s first child, Tripp, is now 7.
“My values are such that a real American hero doesn’t ask for child support,” said David Martin, Bristol Palin’s rep — we imagine with a slap across the face for emphasis.
