Sarah Silverman blogs about putting her poor dog to sleep
Because everyone cares more about puppies and kittens than they do about human beings, here's a story to make you sad. Comedian Sarah Silverman put her dog Duck to sleep this week, and then blogged about it to pay tribute and make us all sad.
Noting her 19-year-old mutt was blind, deaf and arthritic, Silverman said the tough decision became apparent: "Recently, however, he stopped eating or drinking. He was skin and bones and so weak," she wrote on her WhoSay page. "I couldn’t figure out this hunger strike. Duck had never been political before. And then, over the weekend, I knew. It was time to let him go."
She wrote her boyfriend and her sister went to the vet with her, but that didn't make it easy. Then she went into heart-wrenching detail about the procedure.
"I held him and kissed him and whispered to him well passed his passing. I picked him up and his body was limp – you don’t think about the head – it just falls," she wrote. "I held him so tight. And then finally, when his body lost its heat, and I could sense the doctor thinking about the imminent rush hour traffic, I handed him over."
