Sean Penn gets rid of guns for girlfriend Charlize Theron
Most men would do anything to be with the seemingly reverse-aging Charlize Theron, and Sean Penn adores his new girlfriend enough to lose all 65 of his guns.
The Oscar-winning actor, 53, credited the Oscar-winning actress, 38, during his J/P HRO Haiti benefit on Saturday, E! Online reports.
At the Help Haiti Home Gala at the Montage hotel in Beverly Hills, Penn said a “strong woman who happens to be from South Africa” helped him make the decision to remove the weapons from his home.
The Prometheus actress’s mother shot and killed her father after he drunkenly fired his weapon into Theron’s room when she was only 17, and she has been known to speak out in favor of tighter gun control in the United States and Africa.
“You shouldn’t have those things around because when people get irrational and emotional and drunk, terrible things can happen,” she told Diane Sawyer of ABC News.
“Being provoked by this aforementioned strong woman,” Penn said, “and considering how liberating of bulls--- and ugliness it would be not only to get rid of the guns I have in the continental United States but also to destroy them, (artist) Jeff Koons and I had a chat the other day.
“The highest bidder gets every single one of my guns put in the hands of this iconic artist and sculptor... Koons will decommission (and) render inactive all of my cowardly killing machines.”
The winning bid for the artwork? $1.4 million. And the winner? Anderson Cooper, who beat out CNN colleague Piers Morgan.
The star-studded event raised $6 million and ended with a performance by U2.
