The Band Perry's Kim Perry is engaged to Blue Jays catcher J.P. Arencibia
Kimberly Perry of The Band Perry had her dream come true when boyfriend and Toronto Blue Jays catcher J.P. Arencibia proposed on Monday night. (She said yes, but we'll get to that in a minute.)
Perry thought she was picking up Arencibia at the airport, but was still at her parents' home in Greeneville, Tenn., a 15-acre property with a giant oak tree. Kim told the Tennessean newspaper when she first saw the tree when the family moved in when she was a teen, she decided “if I get proposed to in this life, I hope it happens underneath this tree.”
When J.P. called her, he told her to come outside; he was standing under the tree. “I saw that and I thought, ‘This is really happening,’ ” Kim told the paper. Her mother sent her back into the house to change into what she had wanted to wear for such a proposal: Her favorite pink dress, a bracelet her grandfather had once given her grandmother and a letter from her family.
“I got to read the letter and get dressed and put on my grandfather’s bracelet,” she said. “I came back out on the front porch and he was standing there and he got down on one knee. It was perfect.”
If that isn't enough to get you misty, consider where the pair met in February 2012 -- the Plant City Strawberry Festival, where Arencibia, a Nashville resident, used some connections to get backstage because he “had this moment where he felt like that was going to be a part of his future,” Perry said. Yeah, that one broke you, didn't it?
