WWE's Dave Bautista joins Marvel's 'Guardians of the Galaxy'
Another wrestler is starring in a big-budget movie, so that means there's a local connection: Tampa resident Dave Bautista (a.k.a. WWE's Batista) has signed on to star in Marvel Studio's Guardians of the Galaxy. That makes him only the second actor to join the project, behind Chris Pratt, who is kind of on the opposite end of the ectomorph-mesomorph scale.
The Hollywood Reporter says Bautista will play Drax the Detroyer, beating out rumored hopefuls like Isaiah Mustafa, Patrick Wade and Jason Momoa, whom the geeks had picked on the odds-on favorite. The producers must have watched his Conan the Barbarian remake.
What does all this mean to you? Well, if you watched the credits in Avengers, you already saw uber-villain Thanos. Drax the Destroyer is a human brought back to life to defeat Thanos. Pratt's character will be Peter Quill, the American pilot who ends up in the middle of the galactic throwdown. Bautista already starred in The Man With the Iron Fists, and will be in Riddick (yes, another one) with Vin Diesel this September. We're sensing a theme of fists and sweat and violence here.
