Zooey Deschanel's new gig: designing for Tommy Hilfiger
Tommy Hilfiger and Zooey Deschanel are making the dreams of many a London-in-the-Sixties-loving lass come true: They’ve teamed to create a vintage-inspired capsule collection for Macy’s, and we will be buying every single item of clothing they have dreamed up.
The collection, named To Tommy, From Zooey (to our credit card statement) consists of 16 flirty ’60s-inspired dresses, because duh, and will hit stores April 14. The dresses and an exclusive line of handbags and jewelry will be available on tommy.com a week later. Countdown commence.
The pair’s close collaboration focused on “what (Zooey) likes and what she doesn’t like, the kind of fabrics and what kind of colors,” Hilfiger tells Women’s Wear Daily. “We really see eye to eye on a lot of what she loves,” which includes prints and pleats, silks and linens, pique and oxford cloth.
Tommy met the New Girl star at a mutual friend’s place in Santa Monica. He complimented her jumpsuit. She told him how much she hearts vintage. And voila, our dream wardrobe was born.
“There is a lot of red, white and blue, but done in a Zooey way with interesting detail and flirty fabrics” Hilfiger said. The designs are very Jean Shrimption and Twiggy, the designer notes, a departure from his usual American sportswear line. Zooey describes the designs as “Modical,” Mod meets nautical, and named each dress after one of her friends.
“I am a fashion fanatic, and I am always looking for new ways to incorporate vintage, feminine pieces into my own wardrobe,” she said. “Tommy and I share many of the same inspirations — old-school music, classic films and old Hollywood icons — a
nd his guidance during the design process helped to put a really unique twist on each piece.” The dresses will range in price from $98 to $199, so mark your calendars and pinch your pennies!
