AT&T announces new postpaid billing plans for tablets

March

Today AT&T introduced new postpaid billing options for tablet customers, offering the first month of service free for new postpaid $25/2GB plan activations. The new plans begin immediately and can be added to customers’ existing monthly wireless statements. accessories-69157-228x374.jpgPlans can be purchased at AT&T retail stores, at att.com, Best Buy, Walmart and other retail locations nationwide.

Tablet customers now can choose from the following options:

  • Postpaid:  $14.99 for 250 MB or $25 for 2 GB. Customers on the 2 GB plan who exceed their monthly data allotment will be charged $10 per 1 GB of overage. Charges will appear on customers’ monthly wireless statements.
  • Prepaid:  $14.99 for 250 MB or $25 for 2 GB. Customers on the 2 GB plan who exceed their monthly data allotment may choose to purchase an additional 2 GB for $25. Charges will appear on customers’ credit card statements.

This is a nice move by AT&T to provide some billing convenience for their tablet customers. images.jpgI currently use my iPad in WiFi-only mode and have been in a few situations recently where I wished I had bought a month of 3G service. You can do that right on the iPad but you have to have a connection to do it. Knowing I can go into Settings and switch on Cellular Data when I need it, then pay the bill later, makes things a lot easier. It's kind of like having a contract without the expense and the shackles.
