AT&T beefs up wireless capacity at Rays game with a COW

OK, AT&T didn't deploy a bovine at the Trop for Rays game. A COW is a Cell on Wheels and they put one on the southeast side of the stadium to provide expanded capacity for all the anticipated cell and Smartphone activity at the game. The COW doesn't provide a speed increase but will allow more people to be on the network at one time. This is good news if you're going to the game and want to be able to Facebook, Tweet, send videos or photos. A few weeks ago while at a Gator game the network was so jammed I couldn't send a text message to a buddy on the other side of the Swamp. Looking around I'd say 9 out of 10 people at the game had a Smartphone in their hand.

Take a look at this video for an explanation on how the COW works:

AT&T said the COW will remain in place as long as the Rays are in post-season play.

"We know there's a strong interest in the Rays' playoff games, and we want to make sure fans have a great network experience," said Jennifer Van Buskirk, vice president and general manager, AT&T Mobility & Consumer Markets for West, Central and North Florida. "This mobile cell site will help us accomplish that."
