Ben & Jerry's wants to help you find some Schweddy Balls

schweddy-balls-ice-cream.jpgAfter Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream announced their new Schweddy Balls ice cream was available, everyone has been searching for it. The ice cream, named after a hilarious Saturday Night Live skit where Alec Baldwin plays Pete Schweddy, the proprietor of Schweddy Balls. The skit is a parody that mocks the calm and smooth sound of the broadcasters on shows at NPR. In the skit Schweddy (Baldwin) appears on a fake show called Delicious Dish and tells the host about his cheese balls, rum balls and other Schweddy Balls.

I have looked all over Tampa Bay for Schweddy Balls and even walked away from my standard, Chunky Monkey, in disappointment today when I couldn't find some. But now, through the power of Google Maps and social media, we may have a better chance of finding it. The Ben & Jerry's Digital Marketing team has created a crowd-sourced map showing where people have found Schweddy Balls. They ask that fans send a tweet to @cherrygarcia with hashtag #helpmefindschweddyballs to share the locations of their Schweddy Balls finds.

screen_shot_2011-09-20_at_1.25.41_am.pngLooking at the map late early Tuesday, I noticed reports of Schweddy Balls in the Florida Panhandle but none in the Peninsula. Come on Ben & Jerry's suppliers! Let's get the Schweddy Balls down here in South Florida where it belongs. Has anyone found Schweddy Balls in a Tampa Bay store?

Of course you can go to a Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shop to get some Schweddy Balls, but where is the challenge in that? If you do decide to take that route, you can use the Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shop locator to find the closest store. I'll save you some time though. In Tampa Bay the only store is on Fowler Avenue near the University of South Florida.
