BMW's texting and driving video is shocking but so true

As a sidebar to my previous post about apps and gadgets for monitoring your driving habits, I want to share this video with you from BMW. It shows how we go to such great lengths to make our kids "safe" and then we buckle them in the car, take everything for granted and start using our smartphones. It's short and shocking and will make you think about this issue. Watch.

It's really great to see companies like BMW and AT&T take such a responsible position on this issue. I shared AT&T's "It Can Wait" campaign with you before, and if you haven't seen it now is the time. They made a 10-minute documentary about texting and driving that will make you never want to text or be distracted behind the wheel again, and theit site has many tools to help you educate yourself or any driver you love.

For most people, driving a car is the most dangerous thing we do each day. Why do we not see it that way? Why do we shop for cars with more airbags and better safety statistics, then buckle up so we can drive around and play with our gadgets, putting everyone at risk? Put down your phone and think about it.
