Carry a photo booth in your pocket

When our kids were young we used to go to the mall just to make photos at the photo booth. It was always so much fun with all four of us squishing into the booth, pulling the curtain closed and making silly faces to the blinding flash of light with that "pop, pop" sound. And it was so fun to wait for the photo to slip out of the slot, poorly developed and usually still wet. We have a collection of those photo strips that are a priceless part of our family history.

Those booths are hard to find now and when you do find them they're usually the modern, digitally-enhanced versions that lack the charm of the originals. So I figure if I have to live with digitally-enhanced photo booths I may as well have one in my pocket, right? With the IncrediBooth iPhone app I can do just that.

Watch this demo movie to see how it works.

Uisng the front-facing camera you line yourself up in the window and press the start button. A few seconds later you'll see the familiar four flashes as the photos are made. Then you "leave" the booth and wait for your photo strip to come out of the slot. Hilarious!

You can choose from three different lens settings for different effects. Change from a Helga Lens with SuperGrain B&W film, the classic John S lens with SuperContrast film, or a custom Kaimal lens with infrared film. And you also can share photo strips or individual photos via email or on Facebook.

This app is a lot of fun, so much so that's it's a shame it's currently exclusive to the iPhone 4 only. Because it uses the front-facing camera, owners of earlier iPhones can't share in the fun. Hopefully we'll see an Android version at some point too.

I have a feeling I''ll be adding a lot more photo strips to the collection.
