Clearwater inventor's eyeglass repair kit wins third place in contest

The Clearwater inventor's SnapIt Screw eyeglass repair kit placed third in Walmart's Get on the Shelf contest, where more than a million online voters cast votes on the best homegrown gadgets, widgets or marketing ideas from about 4,300 entries.

Three of the top 10 were from the Tampa Bay area: Other Tampa Bay finalists are the Sola-Bag Forever refrigerator cooler from Gene Lasker of Tampa, and Soleeze Spring Loaded insole inserts from Catherine Julian of New Port Richey.

A Philadelphia company selling premium-priced bottled water to raise money for clean drinking water in impoverished countries has won Walmart's Get on the Shelf contest.The PlateTopper, an airtight storage cover to keep a plate of food fresh for $19.77 a pair, was second.
