Eric Whitacre's Virtual Choir v2 "Sleep" world premier, April 7 in New York
After months of preparation and processing of more than 2,000 submitted videos, the world premier of Eric Whitacre's Virtual Choir v2 was announced today, scheduled for April 7 at 6 PM EST at the Paley Center for Media in New York City. The final choir video, made from individual YouTube videos submitted by singers in 58 countries, also will be released on YouTube the same evening. Tickets for the live debut go on sale Friday, March 18. It also will be webcast on WQXR.
The previous Virtual Choir video, Whitacre's "Lux Aurumque," was made from 243 videos submitted by 185 people in 12 countries and is approaching 2-million plays on YouTube. The original goal for the latest Virtual Choir video was to have 1,000 submitted videos. A last minute campaign and push with an extended deadline (due to weather issues in the northeast) more than doubled that goal.
As I've told you before, I'm a member of the latest Virtual Choir and as a video editor, I'm anxiously awaiting the premier. Assembling the video and blending the audio from that many individual submissions I'm sure is no easy task. After the premier I'm hoping to be able to explain to you exactly how it was done.
