Facebook iPhone app adds Places map view, unfriending and event check-ins
The Facebook app for iOS devices was updated Monday to include some new features and improvements. You now can check in at events, use map view in Places and unfriend people. Enhancements were made to the News Feed and the Notifications list has a fresh, new look.

In Places, you can change between Activity and Map view to see the location of friends who have checked in. Clicking on their profile thumbnail on the map will take you to the comments page for the check-in and if you keep clicking, eventually you get to a Google map page telling you how far you are from your friend.

The unfriend button can be found in the same place where you send a message or poke someone. I guess they wanted to make sure people could see it because it's bright red.
You can check in at Facebook events using the Events button in the app and also can do this by selecting Check In on your News Feed page. So far the ability to check in at events is limited to the iOS app, and that makes sense since you likely won't be carrying around your laptop at an event.
