Facebook subscribe button allows sharing without friending
Facebook has introduced a new Subscribe button that provides better control over what you see from others and what they see from you. With the Subscribe button you can:
- Choose what you see from people in your News Feed
- Hear from people, even if you're not friends
- Let people hear from you, even if you're not friends
You can use the Subscribe button to see public updates from people with whom you aren't friends but are interested in, like musicians, artists, actors and political figures. This works similarly to following someone on Twitter or being in someone's circle on Google+. If you see the Subscribe button on someone's profile page you can just click the button to receive their updates.
Allowing subscriptions is optional. If you want to let people subscribe to your page you have to go to the Subscriptions Page and click Allow Subscribers. No more pressure to accept friend requests from people you don't really know just so they can see your public posts. Now you can let them subscribe, just make sure you remember to check your post classifications before sending them (public, friends or custom). People who are subscribed to your page see all public posts by default.
These features are rolling out now and you should see them on your account soon. For more details and information go to the Facebook blog post.
