Flipboard creates your social media magazine on the iPad
I took the iPad plunge last week and have been exploring apps over the past few days. Looks like my timing was good because today there's a lot of buzz about a new, free app called Flipboard.
Flipboard connects to your social media accounts, primarily Facebook and Twitter, to create dynamic, personal content delivered in an elegant magazine format. In addition to your own accounts you also can choose from several other Flip feeds that provide topical information from various social media feeds. Take a look at how my Facebook feed looked in Flipboard today:
After using Flipboard for several hours this morning I found the experience to be incredible. The presentation of my Twitter and Facebook feeds is just gorgeous and to go through your feeds all you do is flip the page. This app should change the way we think about social media from now on.
And it's not just a viewer. You can like and comment on Facebook and also comment on Twitter, so the interactivity is there too.
It does have a few problems sizing images, especially if you hold the iPad vertically, and when it enlarges low-res photos they can look pretty awful. It also appears to have a four-page limit on your Facebook feed so I'm hoping that will increase. Beyond, that, however, it's solid and a must-have for any iPad owner who uses social media.
