Get a free iOS app with your latte, soon at Starbucks
You'll be able to pick up a free, weekly app soon when you stop to get your latte fix at a local Starbucks store. A CNET report this morning says Starbucks is starting to include free apps as part of their "Pick of the Week" program that has been in place for more than three years. With that program Starbucks customers can pick up a card with a code that is redeemable for a selected music track, worth $1.29. CNET's report says the first free app is Shazam Encore, a music identification app with social networking features. The app normally sells for $5.99.
I happened to be in a Starbucks in Tampa when I found out about this so I asked about it. Starbucks employees weren't aware of the program and no app cards were on display. Since there has been no official word on this from Starbucks (they declined to comment to CNET) it's not clear if free apps will replace free music tracks or if they both will be available. If you see a free app card in your Starbucks store take a picture of it and send it to me. Your reward will be a free app from Starbucks. ; -)
