Google Instant promises to be fastest search ever, may hurt SEO
What is Google Instant? Advertised as "faster than the speed of type," it's a new search function that displays possible matches to your search terms as you type. Google says it's not only faster but also more accurate because you don't even have to finish typing or hit Return. It works similarly to the predictive type function on a smartphone.
Google estimates this new feature will save you 2-5 seconds per search because we can read faster that we can type (at least most of us can). I know that's true for me since I type using only my two index fingers and my thumbs.
This new feature has the business world abuzz with concerns that previous Search Engine Optimzation (SEO) efforts will be for naught. Over the past several years many online businesses have been dedicated to researching and optimizing their SEO to drive more traffic to their web sites. We will be hearing a lot about this in the days ahead as it's certain to change the search engine landscape.
You may already have Google Instant running but if you don't, don't worry. Google is rolling it out to all users over the next few days. And if you try it and don't like it, you can turn it off in your Google preferences.
