Inventors of cool iPhone 4 stand asking for your support

Since getting my iPhone 4 I've marveled at it's capabilities as a high-quality camera. Sure, it doesn't have an optical zoom and the flash isn't that great, but in nice light it's very capable as a still and video camera. What if you want to use it on a tripod though? There are some good solutions already. The OWLE Bubo is one, and I love using it as handheld system but it's a little bulky if all you need is a quick tripod fix. I have another tripod mount made from parts at RAM Mounts, and it works well too. But again, it's not something you can keep in your pocket. And what about times when you just need a little stand to prop up your iPhone?

Enter the Glif, a cool gadget designed to be a kickstand for your iPhone 4 and a tripod mount too. Designed by software and hardware developer Tom Gerhardt and interaction designer Dan Provost, the Glif currently is a concept product and the developers have put out a call to raise the setup costs to make the injection molds they need to produce it. Using Kickstarter to solicit pledges to cover the production costs, they originally set a goal of $10,000. All those who donate $20 or more are basically pre-paying for their Glif. So far they have 1,717 backers with more than $43,000 in pledges. So I think it's safe to say the Glif will be part of our iPhone 4 reality very soon.

This product looks like really smart design and if it works as advertised it will be very popular. It's small enough to keep in your pocket, it's easy to use and it performs several functions. I'm off to be backer #1718 right now.
