iPad 2 installed in dash of Ford F-150 on launch day

On Friday Doug Bernards from SoundMan Car Audio in Sana Clarita, CA installed an iPad in the dash of a Ford F150. The video shows the process used to make a custom dash bezel for the iPad so that it can be docked in the dash and easily removed when away from the truck.

The video shows the use of Pandora Radio, Google Maps and FaceTime video conferencing after the install. FaceTime would be a questionable use when the vehicle is moving because of safety issues and it may even be illegal in many states. Florida law, Section 316:303, prohibits the placement of television screens in any location viewable by the driver, with a special exception made for electronic displays used for vehicle navigation systems, both built-in and dash-mounted. So I suppose the iPad could be seen as a large GPS in this case. Other uses, including any watching of video when the car is moving, would be illegal in Florida.

Yeah, yeah...I think the install is cool too. I just wanted to make sure you knew the rules in Florida before you rush out and install one and get busted.
