Jitterbug phone like a personal OnStar for elderly

(Las Vegas, Nevada - January 6, 2011- CES) - We've heard a lot about slim and sexy Smartphones at CES, so how about a fat and klunky one with big buttons? The Jitterbug phone from GreatCall is a simplified phone aimed at the over-65 set and others who might like a full-featured phone that's easy to use.

screen_shot_2011-01-06_at_11.55.51_pm.pngThe Samsung-designed phone has extra-large buttons and a simple menu system but it's not lacking on features. It comes with Bluetooth, a powerful speaker phone, texting capability and caller ID. Add-on features and services can be purchased from the GreatCall app store. Those appsand services include things like Wellness Check, Medication Reminder and Live Nurse.

A new features announced at CES is the "5Star Assist" service. This service enables GreatCall customers to immediately connect to a certified emergency response operator, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The emergency operator provides real-time professional support to the caller.

So it's sort of like OnStar you carry on your person. Cool! The phones are $99 and don't require a contract. Plans start at $14.99 a month with an unlimited plan including use of all the additional apps costing $79.99.
