More kids are getting connected via cell phones



Are you thinking about getting a cell phone for your teenager? A tweener?

MetroPCS recently surveyed more than 160,000 people nationwide about kids and phones. Here's what the found: 

45 percent said they were considering buying a phone for their child this school year

68 percent said the most important factor in that decision is keeping their kids safe

52 percent of the parents said they bought cell phones for children 13 and younger

51 percent said mothers are the decisionmakers when it comes to buying a phone. 

In Nielsen's survey, it said that 58 percent of teens ages 13 to 17 own a smartphone compared to just 36 percent a year ago.
