Motorola WiFi-only Xoom available for pre-order at B&H for $599
Someone is asleep at the switch at Motorola. The Xoom launches before the iPad 2 with good reviews but lackluster sales. Why? Because at launch no WiFi-only model was available and the only way to get one without a contract was to pay $799 for it. That's $799 for a 32GB model, the only size they offer (although you can expand that with a microSD card), which is more than the same-sized iPad 2.
So now the iPad 2 is out and stats show 70% of the people who bought them the first weekend were people who did not own a tablet. Now, after all that, the W-Fi-only Motorola Xoom is in "coming soon" status for $599? Hello? Is anyone home at Motorola?
I have a Xoom and I will be doing a review soon as well as a comparison to the iPad 2. Until the iPad 2 came out I was willing to say it was a very close second to the original iPad. But with the marketing and pricing tactics being used for Xoom, I don't see how Motorola can expect to grab any of the iPad market now.
Anyway, B&H has the Xoom listed as available for pre-order. No shipping date is listed. If you really love the Android platform (Honeycomb is really nice) then it's worth a look.
