Mr. Potato Head offers an alternative to Halloween pumpkin carving
Fall is upon us (although you can't tell from the local temps) and the stores are already loaded with supplies and gadgets for Halloween. Over the weekend I came across some cool Mr. Potato Head sets designed to use with pumpkins. The sets come with parts for different "costumes" in the way you would expect from the makers of the classic spud man. You can choose from Dracula, a skeleton, a witch and more.
I like carving jack-o-lanterns and last year I made a video featuring some cool carving gadgets. I don't like the mess carving makes, however, and I particularly don't like watching carefully carved pumpkins quickly rot in the Florida heat and humidity. Once you gut and carve a pumpkin you only have a few days before the rot, so using these Mr. Potato Head parts might make the pumpkins last longer. The down side? They don't light up like a jack-o-lantern.
You can get the Mr Potato Head pumpkin kits on Amazon.com and other places for around $12. I found them locally, however, at Walmart for just $6.47. They're in the Halloween section there and were flying off the shelves over the weekend.
