Palm-sized JAMBOX is wireless speaker and speakerphone

The JAMBOX speaker and speakerphone is now available for pre-order from Jawbone. The palm-sized speaker is said to be capable of 85db of sound using a pair of proprietary acoustic drivers with a single, ultra-small dome speaker. They combine with a moving-wall, passive bass radiator and airtight enclosure to create a wide dynamic range. Many hands-on reviewers are calling it one of the best battery-operated speakers systems they've heard.

JAMBOX uses no wires, depending instead on Bluetooth for wireless communication to computers, phones, tablets and other Bluetooth-enabled devices at ranges up to 33 feet away. A built-in microphone makes the JAMBOX a capable speakerphone for conference calls when paired with a Bluetooth phone.

Weighing just 12 ounces, the JAMBOX is very portable. A rechargeable Lithium-ion battery provides for up to 10 hours of continuous playback and included 3.5mm stereo input makes it possible to connect wired audio devices as well. A micro-USB connection is used for charging and for enabling special features using the Jawbone MyTALK software, including Simultaneous Multipoint which provides for connections to multiple devices at the same time.

JAMBOX is available in four designs: Blue Wave, Black Diamond, Grey Hex and Red Dot. Retail price is $199.

After watching the demo video, it appears Jawbone has developed a strong product with wide appeal in the JAMBOX. For traveling business professionals, gamers, movie buffs, and just about everyone, the JAMBOX offers great functionality and features. At $199, however, the price seems pretty steep and that may push some people away. Hopefully street prices will be considerably lower.
