Pictures of the Earth from a polystyrene and duct tape box
What do you get when you build a polystyrene and duct tape box, place two cameras inside and attach it all to a weather balloon? Well, pictures and video of the Earth of course. In what probably is the coolest DIY project ever, Colin Rich released the Pacific Star II from Oxnard, CA at 5:37 PM and as it climbed to 125,000 feet, the cameras made photos and video every three minutes along the way. The images are absolutely stunning.
This was his second attempt after problems with frozen condensation made photos from the first attempt unusable.
