Roundup: Google Maps app, action camera apps, gaming trends, more

Google Maps apps for iOS in the works? Some images have surfaced allegedly showing a standalone Google Maps app running on an iPhone. Surely this is great news for those dissatisfied with Apple's Maps app that came with iOS6. CNet

Apps for action cameras: GoPro released an app that will let operate the Hero2 action camera from your smartphone, joining some others like Sony Action Cam and Contour Plus 2.

Free movies with this app: Sony's Crackle app lets you stream free-to-view movies and TV shows on your iOS devices -- free if you don't mind watching ads at the beginning and middle of the shows.

Gaming trends: Survey shows 23 percent app gamers polled say they play on their smartphones and tablets exclusively.

Future in battery charging? A kinetic charger concept harnesses the energy from your walk or run to charge up the battery to your mobile device.

Sizing up the future: Gadget companies are trying different sizes for their devices, from a taller iPhone 5 to a smaller Kindle Fire or the Nexus 7 -- to meet consumer demands.
