Skype WiFi for iOS gets you WiFi by the minute at 1 million hotspots

screen_shot_2011-08-17_at_11.16.16_pm.pngThe value of a Skype credit increased this week with the release of the Skype WiFi app for iOS, because now you can use those credits to buy WiFi access at more than 1 million hotspots around the world, one minute at a time.

Features include:

  • Use Skype WiFi to connect to WiFi hotspots at hotels, airports, train stations, bars and restaurants – available at over 1 million hotspots worldwide.
  • Just one tap to connect and you're online
  • Only pay for the time you’re connected - there are no limits on the amount of data you can upload or download.

If you already have a Skype account make sure you have some Skype credits in your account. Then just download the app, sign in and tap Go Online. Once you're connected you can pay by the minute, so instead of paying for an hour and only using half an hour, you just pay for what you use. The amount of data you transfer up or down does not matter. You can check the rates for each hotspot before you connect and you also can go to to check rates in advance.

The Skype app is only fully-functional when you're connected to a participating wireless network. When not connected to Skype WiFi you can use the app to find supported networks in your area. The app works with the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and requires iOS 3.0 or later.
