Soldier proposes on voice mail to wrong woman

This is one of the most uplifting yet sad stories I've come across. The Telegraph in the UK was contacted by Diane Potts, a 44-year-old mother of three who had received a voice mail with a proposal of marriage. The problem is, Potts doesn't know him.

The man is believed to be a British soldier deployed in Afghanistan. He apparently misdialed his girlfriend's number and then, disappointed that she wasn't there, left and emotional and heartfelt message expressing his love for the unknown girlfriend, known only as Samantha.

"Don't ever forget I love you with all my heart and I was going to ask you - don't answer, obviously you can't answer - but will you marry me?"

On the message the man says he won't be home for three more months and won't be able to call back for another month. He refers to their unborn child, calling the baby "my little soldier."

Potts went public with the message hoping to find the woman who was supposed to receive it. If he was in Afghanistan he may have been calling on a satellite connection and that would be very difficult to trace back to him. Hopefully someone has a gadget that can take the number dialed and compare it to numbers registered to people named Samantha to find a short list and hopefully a match. With Valentine's Day coming soon, it should be great to hear that the message of love was delivered to the one who has won his heart.

Anyone with ideas on how the mystery Samantha can be found should email Andy Bloxham at the Telegraph.
