Untangle your life with an IDAPT charger

We live in gadgety world and in most households these days you'll find several smartphones, some mp3 players, a tablet computer and maybe a Bluetooth headset or digital camera. Each one of those devices comes with it's own charger and that usually leaves you constantly plugging and unplugging or using a power strip with a tangled mess of cords.

The IDAPT i4 universal charger aims to end all that, offering a single charging station with interchangeable tips to simultaneously charge up to four devices. It's compatible with more than 4,000 different mobile gadgets including the iPad, iPhone, iPod, Blackberry, various cameras, GPS units, Bluetooth devices, Sony PSP and Nintendo DS game systems. Here are some additional details:

  • Features 3 tip ports and one USB port with an LED light indicating charge status
  • Interchangeable quick-release tip system allows for easy, customizable charging
  • Comes with six of the most popular interchangeable tips - miniUSB, microUSB, iPod/iPhone, Samsung 4, Nokia 2 and Sony Ericcson 2
  • Available in black, white, silver, red, pink, yellow, green, blue, and orange

The i4 is $59.99 and different tips are $9.99 each. Smaller units that charge less devices also are available. Typically a replacement single charger for a phone or other device is $20 or more, so while the IDAPT system may seem expensive, over the long term it may save you money. And since it's a universal charging system you don't have to know the power rating of your device. Just plug everything in and the right amount of power is delivered to your devices, automatically.

I took a look at these at the CTIA show last week in Orlando and felt the design was great. The tips can be moved around on the base so if you have a smartphone that charges from the side instead of the bottom, you can still make everything fit. Reducing cord clutter, from four cords to one, is a huge bonus too.
