Use your iPhone or iPod as a universal remote with the VooMote One
With digital entertainment becoming such a large part of the personal technology experience in many homes, it's not surprising to see several devices on the market that transform your phone into a smart, universal remote. The VooMote One by Zero1.tv is the latest in a series of several such remotes and looks to be one of the better designs.
When paired with your iPod Touch or iPhone and the free app by the same name, your iOS device becomes a fully-functional universal remote for your TVs, stereo components, DVD and Blu-ray players and more. The goal is elimination of all your other remotes to simplify your life and entertainment experience.
Like more traditional universal remotes, the VooMote One allows programming of individual buttons to perform customized sets of commands on multiple devices at the same time. This allows you to press one button to turn on the TV, turn on the Blu-ray player, set your amp to the right mode and begin watching. It also has a "room control" feature allowing you to group and control various devices by the various locations in your house. The remote has has a "teach-in" mode that can "learn" from your various entertainment components simply by pointing it at the original remote for each device. The VooMote One can automatically capture more than 30,000 infrared codes from thousands of electronic devices. It recognizes 574 TV brands, 995 Top Box/DVR brands, and 151 audio and CD brands. The code library is updated as needed.
The VooMote One will be available on August 5 for $99 at www.zero1.tv and www.BestBuy.com. Additional retailers to be announced soon. It includes three adapters to accommodate the iPod Touch, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4. The VooMote One app also can be downloaded for free at the iTunes store.
