The UV Monkey can tell you when it's time to get out of the sun
It's Summer and in Florida and many other places that means temperatures in the 90's and UV indexes that are off the chart. Sure you can slather yourself with SPF 2,000 sunscreen or use an umbrella, but how do you know when you're getting the maximum UV radiation exposure? Did you know on cloudy days UV radiation can be as high as when the skies are clear?
Well, here's another gadget to the rescue. It's called the UV Monkey and although it was designed by the Power Traveller company in the UK to be used with their line of portable solar panel chargers, you also can use it to monitor UV levels and stay safe outdoors.
The keychain-sized gadget has a chemical compound in it's rubber core that changes color to indicate the strength of UV radiation. When the color gets darker it's time to get out of the sun. It's available at ThinkGeek and other online stores.
So I wonder if the Mystery Monkey of Tampa Bay has a UV Monkey? Maybe he has a UV human instead. ;)
