The "Verizon Guy" slams AT&T in recent iPhone ad
OK, it looks like the gloves are coming off now. AT&T and Verizon have been sparring over the last few weeks leading up to the launch of the iPhone on Verizon's network, but all of that looks like rabbit punches compared to Verizon's recent move. In their latest ad, The famous and nerdy "Verizon guy" takes a call on his iPhone 4 and says: "Yes, I can hear you now" with a big emphasis on "now." Ding, ding, ding, ding. Fighters to their corners, please!
The competition between Verizon and AT&T is a good thing for the consumer and will likely bring better service and better value to customers on both systems as this continues to shake out over the next week. AT&T already has announced they are increasing their included data plan caps with no extra charge and releasing a mobile hotspot app for their Android customers (an iPhone one is thought to be in the works). The Cult of Mac site reported earlier today that AT&T is offering free Microcell 3G service to customers who don't leave them for Verizon, as a reward for their loyalty.
A number of tech columnists have done early comparisons with the iPhone 4 on both systems. The general consensus is the Verizon iPhone 4 has better call quality with slower data speeds while the AT&T version has faster data and more dropped calls. Of course none of the tests have been done with a full load of voracious, data-hungry iPhone users on Verizon's system, so the real tests will come next week and all those iPhones come online. Let's see what the Verizon guy has to say then.
