Verizon poised for iPhone launch, reserve phones now
Thursday is a big day for Verizon and the launch of the iPhone is now less than 24 hours away. Apple and Verizon are now taking advance orders so you can either have your iPhone shipped or reserve it for pickup at a store on Thursday. Even though both Apple and Verizon offer free shipping on iPhone orders, ship dates are listed as "by February 18th," so the reserve and pickup option would be a better choice. No telling how long you'll have to wait at the stores when you go to pick up your order, though. It's pretty safe to say most stores will be jammed with people trying to get iPhones tomorrow, with lines forming well before the 7 AM store openings.
Some recent polls of Verizon customers showed that nearly 50% of Verizon's customers plan to switch to the iPhone from whatever phone they're using now. When you add the people who currently are with other carriers and plan to switch to Verizon because of the iPhone, we should be seeing some big numbers. Let's hope Verizon's network can sustain the increased traffic.
I plan to be at the Apple Store in Tampa for some live coverage of the launch tomorrow, so watch for that.
