VooMote Zapper universal remote dongle for iOS, now available for pre-order

shop_product_zapper_1.pngBack in September I told you about the VooMote Zapper, a small dongle that you connect to your iOS device and converts it into a smart universal remote you can use to control your TV and all your AV components. The Zapper is the successor to the VooMote One which only could be used with an iPhone or iPad. Described as the size of a paperclip the Zapper easily connects to the 30-pin connector on your iOS devices which means it can be used with the iPad too.

And now, after much anticipation, the VooMote Zapper is available for pre-order on the site, in black and white, for $69.99 with free shipping. It won't ship until January and also will be available online and in a variety of U.S. retailers then. If you want one of the brighter colors shown in the photos, you'll have to wait for the retail release.

The Zapper is designed to give you control over hundreds of thousands of electronic devices when used with the accompanying app. Set up is said to be a snap, with no manual and an intuitive set-up interface for control of almost any A/V device in a few seconds. It also allows for the creation of programmable macros to automate multiple functions with one touch of a button and the app is fully customizable so you can change the layout of your remote at any time. The Room Control and One View features allow you to set up and control groups of devices in the various locations of your house and also control multiple devices at the same time. These features are the same as they are in the VooMote One.

One additional feature that sets the VooMote Zapper apart from the VooMote One is TV Guide functionality that displays your programming schedules in a graphical layout. On the iPad this feature will really shine because of the large screen. Watch the video below to get an idea of how this interface works.

This looks like a really great gadget and I look forward to getting my hands on one as soon as possible to do a full review.
