You now can buy your latté with the Starbucks for Android app
If you're an Android phone user who has been Starbucks-green with envy because of your iPhone and Blackberry friends paying for coffee with their phones, today is your day. The Starbucks for Android app is now available in the Android Market for phones running version 2.1 and above of the Android OS.
The app lets you store and access your plastic Starbucks cards in your smartphone and with the touch of a button produces an on-screen bar code so you can wave your phone in front of a scanner to complete your purchase. You also can replenish a depleted Starbucks card (using a credit card), track your My Starbucks Rewards points and find local Starbucks stores, all from within the app.
Adding an additional shot of syrup to the deal, the app will be accepted at some 1,000 Starbucks locations inside Safeway grocery stores beginning July 15. The Safeway site has a store locator page where you can search for stores that have a Starbucks. Currently the app can be used at nearly 6,800 U.S. company-operated Starbucks stores and more than 1,000 Target locations.
I've been using the iPhone version of this app since launch and it's great. I used to carry Starbucks gift cards in my wallet but sometimes I would forget them and it was a pain to keep track of which ones still had a balance. I always have my iPhone with me and the app keeps track of everything, making the buying experience fast and convenient. If you're a regular at Starbucks and have an Android phone, you need to check this out.
