Scoreboard gazing
After one period, the Lightning have been outshot by the Devils 9-5, but from the press box it really looked like the Lightning played much better than that shows. Obviously, the Lightning took the lead on Vinny's power-play goal, but they also limited the Devils' scoring opportunities with some aggressive forechecking and kept New Jersey on the outside, kind of beating the Devils' at their own game. The Lightning has eight hits -- three by Lecavalier -- to Jersey's four. Tampa Bay has definitely come to play in the early going.
