A plea from David Carle

Spoke to him one more time Saturday night and he asked two things be stressed. First he wanted to thank the NHL's doctors for finding the genetic condition in which his heart lining had thickened, which could cause a sudden heart attack, especially during exertion.

"I had no symptoms," Carle said.

That led to the second point.

"I would stress that every athlete should get tested," he said, "In any sport."
