Tampa Bay took center James Wright of Vancouver of the Western Hockey League with the 117th overall pick. It was the Lightning's first pick since taking Steve Stamkos No. 1.

Wright, 18, is probably two or three years away, says NHL Central Scouting, which nonetheless ranked him the No. 35 North American skater. He had 13 goals, 36 points and 21 penalty minutes in 60 games last season for Vancouver.

Wright said he was surprised he fell as far as he did. Perhaps it has something to do with his own critique. Asked on what he could improve, the 6-foot-3, 175-pounder said, "I've got to get bigger and stronger and contribute more offensively."

With the 122nd pick, the first of the fifth round, the Lightning took goalie Dustin Tokarski, who led WHL Spokane to the Memorial Cup championship. Not only that, the 18-year-old was Memorial Cup MVP with a 4-0 record with a 1.72 goals-against average and a .953 save percentage.

With the 147th pick. Tampa Bay took right wing Kyle De Coste from OHL Brampton. The 18-year-old had 10 goals and 22 points with 48 penalty minutes in 66 games last season. He is 6-1, 178 pounds and was the 115th-ranked North American skater by Central Scouting.
