Tyrell gets training camp invite
The Lightning announced that center Dana Tyrell, the team's second-round pick (No. 47 overall) in 2007, has been invited to training camp and will join Tampa Bay Thursday for its first scrimmages at the St. Pete Times Forum. He will join defenseman Ty Wishart and center Chris Lawrence. All played for the Lightning at a prospects camp in Traverse City, Mich.
Tampa Bay lost 5-2 to the Blue Jackets on Wednesday to finish 0-3-1 and last in the eight-team tournament while going 3-for-34 on the power play.
Hockey ops chief Brian Lawton stressed that standings were secondary. "We didn't win but that's not the criteria," he said. "It's how do we perform individually and as a team."
Lawton said he watched the first two games before returning to Tampa for training camp and said his critique of the first game was "not enough urgency," but said he saw that urgency increase from period to period.
