Alternate captains named; Hutchinson clears

Lightning coach Barry Melrose said his alternate captains are right wing Marty St. Louis and defenseman Andrej Meszaros. Vinny Lecavalier is the captain.

Naming St. Louis is no surprise. He was an alternate last season. But Meszaros is somewhat surprising given the 22-year-old joined the team during the summer and is so young. But Melrose said the expectation is Meszaros will be a leader on and off the ice.

"He's going to play a ton of minutes," Melrose said. "And a guy who plays as hard as he does deserves an award like that."

Also, defenseman Andrew Hutchinson cleared waivers and is expected to be assigned to AHL Norfolk.
