Not a bad place to try for a third Stanley Cup, eh? Lightning right wing Mark Recchi, 41, was traded to the Bruins along with a 2010 second-round draft pick. In returns, Tampa Bay got two minor leaguers: forward Martins Karsums and defenseman Matt Lashoff.

Karsums, 23, is a 5-foot-10, 198-pounder who had 17 goals, 41 points and 20 penalty minutes in 43 games with AHL Providence. He had an assist and is minus-3 in six games with the Bruins. He is in the final season of a three-year deal that pays $825,000 this season. He will be a restricted free agent after the season. For you trivia buffs, Karsums is Tampa Bay's second player from Latvia. Remember defenseman Kaspars Astashenko?

Lashoff, 22, is 6-2, 204, and had five goals, 21 points and 36 penalty minutes in 33 games for Providence. He had an assist and 10 penalty minutes in 16 games with the Bruins. He was the Bruins' No. 1 pick (22nd overall) in 2005. He also is in the final year of a three-year deal pying $685,000 this season, and will be a restricted free agent.

Lightning GM Brian Lawton had said he wanted draft choices first and prospects second as he made deals heading toward the 3 p.m. trade deadline. But he also has said he wanted to address depth issues throughout the organization, but especially at defense. Lashoff, as someone who has played, though briefly, in the NHL, certainly adds defensive depth at a level the team did not posses.
